Had a purge valve code, pulled and cleaned, ran for a short time, did it again.
Went to a local flea market and saw a small fuel filter($1) blew thru it , very little resistance, installed between the canister and valve...all was well, that was 2001...guess what, started doing the same thing...look what was in the filter, changed filter, ( another whopping $1 ) problem solved for another 18 years. Don't remember the mileage but, 60K plus I'm sure.

Do you have the air filter attached to the inlet of vent valve? Besides that, unless you canister is deteriorating I cant see why you would be getting chunks of crap in the purge valve? But clever solution.

Between the canister, and the purge valve, did it because of cost of canister.
