Ive been reading up on underdrive pulleys and have heard both good and bad things about them. I am looking at the 5 piece kit from stuffforyourranger.com. It comes with the underdrive, alternator, idler, water pump, and belt. What are everyone's thoughts? Ive read that it is a waste on these motors and that they should really be run with e fans but have also heard that they give you good bang for your buck.

people say they make a diffrence some say no, they make less strain on the engine so it does make a diffrence its just if it is that noticable. it is a personal choice. I feel it is a waste of money for the amount of gain like it is a good last thing to do when you have done everything to squeez ponies out. Others feel it is a good starter mod for your truck.

So let me get this straight...

You buy an underdrive crank pulley along with overdrive water pump and alternator pullys and hope to gain what? The only things you are underdriving are the air conditioner pump and power steering pump. Not much gain.

Just get the underdrive crank pully and new belt, and forget the rest. I did and like it. No problems with alternator and I have an aftermarket system. I get a little better gas mileage and notice better off-the-line response.

Placebo effect.

Underdrive pulleys only produce the claimed "Gain" at or near the
maximum rpm the engine will see, at low rpm? Nada

at cruise rpm? you are kidding right?

Like many "performance parts" the only people they really make happy
(other than people in self-denial that they've been conned)
are the accountants for the people selling the crap.
