Alright, so here in saskatchewan we have Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) and that's the main insurance provider in saskatchewan. Now just recently, and without public awareness and imput, SGI has created a new policy for lifted vehicles: Insurance will not be provided for vehicles with modified suspension and tires. Specifically, this is pointed towards vehicles with liftkits. Now, i know SGI may have some grounds here especially those pertaining to excessively raised vehicles, but my understanding is that anything over 6" with +34" tires will NOT be covered. Now not only is this affecting the truck enthusiasts of saskatchewan who love the clearance of a raised suspension and the climbing ability of a larger tire but also the businesses that offer the suspension kits. Now, most of these are large companies that can afford to lose a couple bucks here and there but the rest are small, growing painfully slow business that are having trouble just paying the bills. So economically for most, it wasn't the greatest choice made by SGI. But the understanding is that "excessively" raised vehicles, and i know of some, can be scary, especially when it's passing you on the highway and the only thing you can see is rubber and rim but there are those with only 2" kits and although they have factory sized tires, the kit completley voids his insurance coverage. That's alittle unfair. Now, how much money have many of you put into just suspension kits and conversion: probably close to thousands. And most of these modifications are so very very difficult to reverse which means spending more to take off than to actually put on.
Now that you've heard the rant, what does everyone else think about this?

that sucks!i'm unpacking my bags and staying here, damn the bad luck.

it doesn't happen like that in Canada, the government does not like competition. while private medicine is not illegal it is highly discouraged and the government usually finds a way to shut it down. Same with insurance and anything else the Canadian government gets its hand into ..............

I think that there is an opportunity for another insurance company to step in and get alot of customers real fast.

Dude you have NO idea what were dealing with up here, just to let you know i am paying about $1120 Canadian for my 03 ranger per year to insure it, my old bike 79 Yamaha $1300. and next year the bike is going up 7.2% again, needless to say i can't afford the bike.

BTW anyone interested a 1979 Yamaha XS750 Special, with 33000KM?

That does suck. Common sense would allow for a reasonable limit to non-stock lift, but "government" and "common sense" just doesn't go together. Just curious; is there a similar penality for lowered vehicles?

Can I move up there? I am paying $2000 per year to insure my 97.

Most Americans I have talked to only pay a couple hundred a year for a car and or bike, the truck I can kind of live with but with my bike, and only being able to ride for 5 months if I am lucky, she’s not worth it.

In Ontario, as far as I know, they haven't implemented anything like that...but I know that when I went from my 88 Ranger 2wd to the Suzuki 4wd (that I rarely if ever use) my insurance tripled...

For someone who has driven for nearly 40 years I think that's absurd...especially when I don't do any off-road and the vehicle is all stock...

But I feel for you guys...and I'm sure that other insurance companies should be able to oblige you unless the restriction is being implemented by them also...

I guess it's time for a Saskatchewan Wheat Party...or something like that...

Alberta has private insurance but i'm getting raped by it because i'm a young male. i've never gotten a ticket or been pulled over, and the only accident i've been in was when someone hit and run-ed my truck while it was parked, and it didn't go up!

but i can kinda understand the lifted truck thing, can you imagine a f-350 lifted 10" on 40" tires rear ending a yaris? its just dangerous cause the bumper is so far above everything else's bumper.

I suppose if I lived there, I'd either have to............

1) Drop my 6" lift to 4" & drop my tire size to 33's

2) Make my truck a "Trail Use Only" rig which would suck because then I'd have to spend more money on a tow rig & trailer & the upkeep on that.

That's insane for that bike! It'd cost an 18 year old here around $400.00 USD a year.

i cant see you lowering you truck lol. its to awesome as it is:pray:

I hope this is a joke. But if not, then get if done and insured before the rule comes into effect and get grandfathered in!

As far as i know there's mno policies on lowered vehicles. But the thing is though that SGI did this without any public imput and without notice.
Just curious though, how much would it actually cost to reverse a lift?
