hello,

I got a letter from the insurance company that I have to show proof of the ABS system in my 99 ranger! they want a window sticker or something but I have none. I thought all rangers from 94 or so on had ABS, so why are they even asking???

can I go to a ford dealership and ask them to print out a document that shows froof of the ABS?

Thanks, Bjoern

You should be able to get the parts department to run the vin and it will give a list off all the options taht came with the truck.

just have your mom write them a note that says it has abs... it always worked in middle school! lol. that is bs though for sure... i told them my 86 ranger had abs, the thing didnt even have power brakes let alone abs, and i never had to prove anything!

all rangers your generation will have ABS, its a foregone conclusion, it was standard equipment even on the bare bones XL models

Rear ABS that is. 4Wheel abs was not standard. It doesnt matter either way. RABS is still ABS. Dont try to explain the difference to the insurance company. Just find a list of standard features and point to that saying you have ABS.

thanks for the answers, I'll go and have them print out a list.

Don't be dissappointed if you don't get a reduction. Liberty Mutual never considered RABS to be good enough for any discounts. Only ABS would please them.

Couldn't you just shoot em a couple pic's of the inside of your hubs? If a vehicle is abs equiped it will have the wires coming out from the hub.

Any insurance company worth sending a monthly premium to should be able to get all the information they need about your vehicle with the VIN number.

I think you can do this on http://myford.fordvehicles.com , but I haven't checked. You can download a manual for your truck there, so it is worth registering on the site.

I also did a quick search. Try Google and search for VIN Decoder. There are a number of sites listed. I didn't bother to see if they charge or not.

Frankly I'd ask them if they were stupid or something...

MY insurance KNEW my 1994 Aerostar that replaced my 1991 Aerostar (that didn't)
had an Airbag without my telling them, they told ME when I called to switch the insurance from one to the other.

when I called to inquire how much the insurance was going to be on
my 1998 Escort they asked for the VIN and IMMEDIATLY the agent
said "Airbags AND ABS", they KNEW.
