Project Trail Authority (Official Build Thread)

The most ive seen a 8.8 go for was 350 and it had 4.56 in with a detroit in it.lol and that was a steal if ya ask me.

Finished the 8.8 yesterday! I took the day off, because I was going to lose a day of vacation if I didn't. I did the final set on the 5.13's, got the disc brake set up from the junk yard, new rotors/pads, set my pinion angle, welded on my leaf perches, and shock mounts, and finished her off with a good couple coats of black paint.

I decided to go with black, because it was already pretty much black/brown, and scratches won't show up too bad, and also makes for easy touch up.

Took the time to clean up the old welds from when I cut off the sway bar mounts, and leaf perches. I also ran the bead of weld from pig to axle tube.

So next weekend I'm going to buy a driveline from a 4.0 extended cab from the JY, pick up some U-bolts, and run the brake lines. I'm excited as all hell to finally be able to drive it with matching gear ratios:icon_bounceblue: It'll be trail bound VERY soon!

so you cut up the old schock tabs and it looks like you reused the leaf spring perches?

Thanks Eddie! You would be correct. I was very careful when cutting the perches so I could reuse them. And I figured why make new shock tabs, when I already have them. I'm going to reconfigure the shocks to go up at an angle like this / \. I think I'll be able to get quite a bit more out of em this way.:icon_thumby:

yeah, that's what i figured. i guess you'll have to fab up a new upper shock mount too?

Yeah, but it's all easy stuff. I have some 3/16" plate that I'll make them out of, and weld em to a cross member I put directly above the axle. I think it'll turn out pretty sweet, once it's all done. Pics to come next weekend! If it works out nicely, and you like the way it looks, I can hook you up with dimensions.

i wish, i have a b2, i'm limited on the amount of space i have to make a new upper shock mount.

i bought some shock tabs from ballistic a few months back. they're made of 1/4" plate and have the 3.25" radius for an 8.8 already cut into them. i think i'm just gonna use the stock upper mounts and bring the lower mounts up even with the bottom of the axle, to keep them out of the way. then i'll just measure the distance and get new shocks for the rear.

that way, i can use my current rear shocks for the front and i'll fab up some f250 type shock mounts with some 3/16" plate

it just needs to cool off down here, it's been damn near 100* everyday for the last month....and i'm not gettin out there and welding in that

Ha ha, I hear ya man. The heat kills me. Being from Washington state, 90* makes me want to soak in a tub of ice. Ha ha.

Sounds like you have yours all planned out man. I can't wait to see some progress on it!

:icon_cheers:

Howdy, i'v been reading your thread while at work and I got to say so far it looks great man. I was just wondering where you bought your lift from? I might have over looked it if you already mentioned it, so I apologize haha.
