Decided to have a go at building my own Tire gate. I'm using 1 3/4 steel tubing, brackets and bushings from kartek and a harbor freight tubing notcher. I worked on it for a few hours yesterday and ended up with this. I still need to make the upper tire support bar, a few upper to lower supports and weld the spare tire carrier in place. Unfortunately due to this thing called family I won't get to finish it until next weekend lol

Interested in see how this turns out. I have a friend that has one on his Tacoma that it pretty trick. If I still had a bed I would probably be doing something similar.

Any progress? Curious to see how it turns out.

I did work on it. I need to add 2 more support bars to hold the tire a little more stable, clean up my welds and paint it.

That's pretty cool man. I like it. I'm wanting to build something similar for my truck, but wanting to find a nice looking way to incorporate the stock tailgate.
