Well, got the tank welded together, leak tested it and found about 4 small pin holes, went back and re-welded the leaks, but ran out of time of re-leak testing it. I'll test it later today and hopefully get it back in the CJ...Here the pics

Today I hope to get the tank finished and back in the Jeep, tomorrow I should have the seat brackets fabbed, installed and the brakes done, so it should be running and driving tomorrow

I had planned on that, but I still have a leak test to do. The welds are exposed, and its still bare metal around the seem, so once it passes the leak test, it will get a coat of paint

POR 15 says that no chemical will penetrate it once cured, I haven't tried it, so this is a first trial basis...I got it sealed up yesterday, and also put a bead of RTV around the entire weld joint for extra measures. I found out that flux core wire is not the best for sealing welds, and my other welder is not here right now, so its all I have to use right now. Anyways I got that done, and while the RTV was curing, I switched to getting the CJ out of storage and started working on the seat brackets. I finally got the passenger figured out and mounted, but I need to move it forward about 2 inches, so I'll be doing that and the driver seat today, and hopfully will be mounting the fuel tank as well. I need to get some replacement hose for the filler neck, but I think I have some laying around the shop that I can use. Should be driving this thing around by this evening

I like Jeeps, that is the one's before they became part of Dodge. I have nothing against Dodge, but I just preferred when Jeep was Jeep/AMC

Yep, its a 1973 CJ-6, factory 304 V8, has a T-19 trans, dana 300, 44's front and rear, detroit locker out back, EZ locker up front, 410 gears, breand new set of 4340 shafts in the front with spicer joints, new painless wiring harness, 8274, HiLift, 36" TSL SX's (5 @ 95+%), all VDO gauges, custom aluminum panel dash, Carter carb, Accel ign, firewall dump headers, dual exhaust, new brakes and wheel cylinders out back, disc conversion up front, new seats, padded roll cage, custom bumpers front and back, rear spare tire carrier designed to be lifted when wheeling for better departure angles, aluminum diamond plate rear corner guards, I'm sure there's more that I didn't list here...

Progress report...I haven't posted yesterday, was having a bad allergy attack at the end of the day and felt like $h!t...I got the tank sealed and painted, and while the tank was drying I got to fabbing the seat brackets and getting the new seats installed. I used a combination of 1" square tubing and part of the original bracketry. Caught some hell getting them in there, and there is no room to get in there and wrench, despite being open. I got the passenger side done first, but I had to mount it twice, as I had the seat brackets slid all the back forward, and positioned the seat all the way back, so it wasn't going any more forward than what it was (not like it has much room to slide anyways) And the brackets, although new, are hell to get to slide. They must be missing a bracket Anyways, got them installed, and got the driver fabbed and installed. Then it was on to the rear brakes, another day of hell!! Jay showed up to lend a hand. Got them pulled apart, no biggie, but realized I had a broken spring, so Jay takes off to get a spring kit at the local autoparts store (NAPA), He gets there and asks for a spring kit for a old jeep....Nope, don't have it. Okay, how about an old Oldsmobile....Nope, don't have it. Well, how about an old chevrolet....Nope, out of stock on all of them... Try an old Ford....Hey, we got that, 9 bucks, compared to the broken spring he took with him, its a match!! So while he is on the safari of parts hunting, I was pulling the rest apart and changing out the wheel cylinders...got the driver side done, I changed it so fast I didn't even lose on drop of brake fluid Actually, that side was dry...Got to the passenger side, had fluid leaking as soon as I cracked the line. Thats more like it, so I pull it out, get the new one in, tighten the line, and the line goes all the way in the WC, and leaks upon bleeding...hmm, so I pull it out, inspect the flare and re-install the line, again, all the way in and still leaks So I pull it out and look inside the WC...Ah ha! I need a long threaded fitting, and the line has a short threaded fitting, so that stops work there. By the time I get the driver WC on, Jay returns with the spring kit and the brakes are reassembled with new springs and new shoes, drums are cleaned and reinstalled, and adjusted til snug. So with the brakes incomplete, jay said he'd return tomorrow with the fitting (to save a trip to town) Okay, so we will turn to the fuel tank install next...Well, at this time I was having a real bad allergy/sinus attack, and with a massive migrain, which only got worse trying ot lay down under the jeep to hang the tank, it took all of 4 seconds me laying down to call it a day. Went inside and laid down and just about slept for about 3 or 4 hours...Anyways, so with ending a day not quite finishing the CJ, I did get quite a bit done. It will be finished today...So, on with the pics!!
