whats everyone do to keep motivation on there project? been having a really rough time lately.

assuming i just need to go wheeling, or go to a car show or something, that ussually kicks things into gear. youtube also helps me, motortrend on demand.

not sure if its the current status of the build that is making it rough or if it is a bunch of things all together.

I usually take two years between steps and keep my garage so full of garbage from the project that I get pissed off and want it done.

I just don't like having half-finished projects hanging over me. So I try to make sure I have enough time allotted and available before I start something. Big projects get broken down into smaller bites if possible. Otherwise, I set goals so I can look forward to completing them. I always have multiple projects going. So I can stay busy on something in any weather or switch projects while waiting for parts or whatever. Not much motivation problem here.

That saying no rolling stone gathers moss? I kinda go with that.

Even if it is little things I always have something going on with it.

Kinda different too though, it mainly gets tabled due to lack of time, funding or unheated garage. Not really lack of interest. Getting sidelined for one of the first three (first two mainly) and that causing me to lose interest is a concern... I have been picking at it for a long time though.

After this last debacle I am about with adsm and just want it done so I can get my garage back together.

my truck has been half finished or less for over 25 years.

hows that for motivation?

I usually try to do projects in steps/stages so that the truck isn’t down for too long.

i am generally really good about getting excited to see boxes at my door and putting in a few hours after work to get things done as quick as possible. this time around i did the chains on a sohc engine and did the swap with ohv ecu. which was supposed to be a quick swap. its been 1 step forward and 2 steps back every time i work on the thing.

had the opportunity to go on like 10 wheeling trips but i havent finished the pig, im assuming im not all that satisfied with the sohc. it starts, and runs great.

im close tho! need to have a power steering line made, wire in the volvo fan relay, modify the exhaust to clear the front drive shaft, and trim the fenders for the new 37s.

i thought that if i put a fresh set of chains in a sohc, i would feel good about it. but somehow i just feel like there going to fail me before i get the 302 done up. even tho i preached that several sohc 4.0 make it past 200k without issues.

It’s been like that with my utility trailer restoration/upgrade. A project that never seems to end. It will be awesome when it’s all done. It’s the getting there that is taking forever.

I don't have my truck in a garage right now so weather really plays a roll in what I get done. Got the bed off this weekend. I think I want to coat it with something. But anyways, I usually don't start something that I cant finish in a weekend. Living in north FL doesn't give us cold winters, but it does rain just enough to keep everything wet and cold. So I make sure I have more than enough time and NO KIDS running around, do get to a good stopping point because Idk when I will get back to it.

I have a pickup box trailer that has been waiting for me to bend the frame rails and put a hitch on it for 17 years. :icon_rofl:

I usually gather together the material and tools for the next step in the project and think about it. then it seems a lot easier to dive in later. Once you are back at it the motivation seems to follow.
