Tone Ring is a BMX bike gear tacked to the pinion yoke with a bracket for the vss.

Measured at 22" of wheel travel front and rear

Fried the rings in my 3.0. Pulling the 3.0 currently, and am building a supercharged 408 or 427w w/ a C6 trans. Still dealing with transfercase options. Trying to rig up passenger drop to run a Chevy Dana60 (cost)
Looking at a np203 range box bolted up to a pass drop NP205.

IT'S NEVER OVER.

just wondering what your plan is for the RABS sensor. you might think of mounting a tone ring on the driveshaft. a good place for info about it is dezertranger.com
 
ABS are for pussies. And people in shape.
 
I think the RABS tone ring is also the speed sensor (for the speedo and computer) on the later model rigs...

Tone Ring Change Calculations

Tire Circumference: 35" x 3.1416 = 109.956"

Revolutions per Mile = 63,360 / 109.956" = 576.2304
(63,360 is the amount of inches per mile)

Conversion Constant = 576.2304 x 108 / 8,000 = 7.7791104
(108 is the number of teath on the tone ring. 8,000 is a the number of pulses per mile the PSOM needs to be accurate)


Teeth on New Sensor Gear =

(8,000 x Conversion Constant) / (Tire Rev. per Mile x Ring & Pinion Ratio)

(8,000 x 7.791104) / (576.2304 x 5.13) = 21.085


Now the question is, should I use the stock ratio for ring and pinion, (4.10:1) or the not installed but desired gear ratio?


I will have a gear made with 21 teeth at a machine shop. I'll do it up like this dude did:

And I've heard different things from tons of different people about not using the VSS with automatic trannys and not having shifting issues or ABS issues.

I'll pull the vss tomorrow and give her a cruise and see if it even works. I know the ABS light will stay on. But hapiness is just a bulb pull away

Calculation for the number of "teeth" count required at the transfer case mounted tone ring:
New Teeth Count = [Old tone ring teeth count] / [Gear Ratio of differential]

The old tone ring of course is the one pressed onto your old Ford 8.8's carrier.
 
how does he plan on ahving the bolts go all the way through that flange with the tone ring overlapping

That setup is on an explorer and has been used and abused. He has the correct length bolts, that engage the thread but dont stick out the backside.
 
if you pull the vss your instament cluster will light up like a christmas tree and you will be stuck in first gear, i know mine went out on my 2000 ranger had to drive it 10 miles homes in 1st
 
sweet it looks like you have the right idea. I was going to do a 9'' but it was becoming a pain in the ass to find someone to build me a tone ring. good luck and cant wait for the build.
 
Mitch and I began tearing down the Heap today. All doors, body pannels, fenders, and rear alxe and suspension are gone. I have some buyers lined up for parts to help with the Ranger costs.

I pulled the VSS out of the diff and went for a cruise. It shifted normal, and I had my speedo.

BUT: I have been rocking front wheel drive for a while. I've got no rear drive shaft in, and I just hang out in 4wd. I didn't have time to look. Is there another VSS in the front?

From what I've heard, Jeeps use tone rings in the output shaft of the transfer case. I'm going to rip apart the Jeeps blown t-case and check the gear. It's crazy enough it just might work!
