Project Molly the Mall Crawler

Dude... neither is your brain :thefinger:

Naw he's just tricky. You gotta be in the know to find the pics.

i just keep updating the first post , look on page one

a whole bunch of new ones , and i have begun to date stamp

so my progress so far , well this week i disassembled the engine as the pics show. well we checked all the TSB's for the 4.0 on Pro-Sis , and so far i have had no problems (knock on wood ) though i did break 6 exhaust manifold bolts off , for having 261k miles this think shows very little wear. The passanger side head has an exhaust valve seat that is somewhat damaged , we are not sure if it is a bad guide or just a woen spring , checking that monday. We magnafluxed the heads today and they both checked out fine , the block will be ready monday , at which point i am going to sandblast it and prep for paint. The engine will need new rocker arms , but wit the miles and the knowledge of 4.0 rocker arm wear i am not surprised. i will update this more as i do more work. I am ordering a 4.0 SOHC pan for it , and i have to get a 96TF manifold for a Ranger.

well got the engine out of the bake oven today , pressure washed it , then blew it off , cleaned out the cylinders , found .006" skirt clearance when there is supposed to be .002" at max , so she is getting bored .020" over to have the correct clearance with new pistons

well i checked the heads today , about .002" warpage on both , max allowable is .006" , so i am gonna run them as is , they went in the bake oven today , so i just have to get a list of needed parts and then i will be ready to bore it out and begin reassembly , just need to find a ranger fuel rail

well yesterday i measured valve guide clearance and it wasnt good , but we are gonna tru to salvage the heads , we dont have the correct reamers for my heads so the teacher ordered them.

i started to bore my block today , got the first cylinder , gonna continue tomorrow , posting some new pics here in a few minutes , looking for input on my progress.

and i decided not to put a cam in , i ran my setup on desktop dyno with a stock cam and then with the comp 410 cam , and the comp gives it 27 extra torque , but at 3500 RPM , not where i want to be running it

Keep up the good work, doin great so far:icon_thumby:I'll have another 4.0L in a couple of months if you want more practice!!!

i would gladly do it for you SVT , but i only have 5.5 Weeks left of this class , and then its Christmas break and off to service managing , which is gonna suck.

and there is a 4.0 SOHC short block laying in the corner of the shop that i want to rob the pan off from , this kid in machine shop bought it with the intention of having us build a 4.0 that could handle twin superchargers

and it is scary as all hell boring one of these over , because the main bearing web is right at the bottom of the cylinder because of the way they are off set , so you have to have your hand on the engagement lever to be ready to stop it as soon as it is done cutting , because you only have maybe half an inch of clearance before you hit the main bearing web

well there are 4 new pics in the first post , i painted the block this afternoon , i will get a couple pics tomorrow when it is completely dry , and i have all the masking stuff off. still have yet to hone the cylinders , i have to get my pistons first , i am ordering my engine kit tomorrow , its everything i need since i designed the kit myself , the bad part it is $1,150.00 , o well , parts are the most expensive part of building one of these engines , as they are not that popular of an engine , i will post my progress as i get further along

well i was working on taking the core support out on friday when the pars guy came over and told me there was a big box in the engine room for me , my kit came in , it is all name brand stuff.

i got a little work done to my engine , just got the new rockers on , a company called SBI makes an upgraded rocker for the 4.0 , they are definantly beefier than the originals.

and on saturday i picked up about $700 worth of parts for both trucks from ford , for this truck i got new valve covers , a new cam synchro , and i am putting a 4.0 SOHC oil pan on it.

i will post more pics shortly , check the first post

thanks man , maybe once i get her done , and the warmer weather comes , i can come down there to turkey bay and wheel with you guys

I've got a little bit of carnage from last run, so it'll be a couple of months before I can make it back out there, but John (railman) might make a trip or two out there in the meantime. I lost my front axle (think my spiders) and my TCLS is stuck in my trans. Rather than put the money into fixing the D35, I'm gonna finish building my 3/4 D44 and D60 axles, as well as my V8 TT swap. So I'll be down for a little while...
