Project Guinea Pig

Lol mine was just about the same.

We do have the same taste in trucks and comparable luck.
I might have to rethink the fullsize axle plan. The way things are going it might add another year to the build time. :pissedoff:

Any progress on yours of late?

No I recommend doing it! It does great!

No nothing. I'm gonna swap the power steering pump out for a Saginaw pump soon. Just haven't had the spare cash for the pump, belts and hoses. And I need to get new brake calipers. because the ones I have don't match up to the ford brake lines and they're leaking.
Might try to find the ford 6 hole caliper brackets to run instead of the Chevy caliper brackets.

I don't doubt it does great but I'm facing a cash crunch. At this rate it might have the TIB under it a fair while longer. :dunno:

I'm gonna quote Ranger SVT here: "Kyle (M) you can also get a power steering pump from a 2000 powerstroke. It has a higher output rating due to the hydroboost, and its less than $60. It'll bolt right in place of the 5.0 mustang style pumps.." ( http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85360&page=275 post 2743)
Something to consider?

Yeah I saw that post. I just like the fact the Saginaw pump is known for its reliability and it's also quite.

Oh okay. I prefer the Sag pump because the aftermarket backs them up better, they're way quieter and seem to work better.
I've had some Ford trucks, Mopar & GM musclecars and its a superior PS pump over the others. At least Ford had the foresight to make the Sag available in a few of its trucks and vans so the conversion is doable and not a science project.
Just a matter of locating the engine bracketry. Ebay maybe?

My science project is going to have the rear suspension put back together so it can be moved around ( with that awesome Cali rake. lol ) and probably back burnered until things improve for me. I had 3 days off this week if that says anything. :bawling:

Bummer!

I finally picked up my G2 wheel adapters. They ate my budget so no U bolts yet. I need slightly longer ones, even 3/4 inch would work
U bolts are 16.99 each here and NSOR doesn't sell them anymore.
Bummer.

Well that's a little progress!

I'm going to go over what I have and don't have for the 73 Bronco axle today. I think I have most of the major parts, short fresh bearings and seals.
I have no steering for it and only some of the outer parts but it might keep me motivated and in one direction on this thing.
Since the Ranger and Bronco II will probably both use 4.88's I can move it to the other truck when this one gets upgrades. And probably sell it once they both get HP axles.
With a little focus I can have the LP 44 (with decent upgrades) under here before too long. I like the idea of using a high pinion axle but its not in the cards right now. Besides I have the chromo shafts for it and a limited slip that wont work in a HP axle. Be kind of stupid not to put it to use...
:icon_idea:

Heres what I've got for the U100 front axle, New:
G2 chromo axles, inners, both sides.
Auburn pro series limited slip (ring gear surface has light rust now)
G2 standard rotation 4.88 ring & pinion.
G2 install kit for r & p.
Poison Spyder diff cover (+ hardware kit but no gasket)

Dana 44 axle has:
4.10 factory ring & pinion, open carrier.
long side inner and outer shafts, missing short side (both)
incomplete conversion to Ch*vy outers with the following issues:
right side knuckle needs replaced due to crap welded to it (was otherwise complete with 6 bolt wheel hub, less locking hub (have.)
left side high steer knuckle complete with Ch*vy 6 bolt outers less locking hubs (have.)
Leaf spring perches welded in place of wedges, no other mounts.

(upside down) diff:

Missing and required: (Assuming I leave 6 bolt outers for now)

Bearings and seals throughout.
Outer shafts.
Cover gasket.
All steering parts, it has nothing.

Truck requires to install:

Leaf springs.
Mounting points for leaf spring suspension created and welded in.
Shocks. Shock mounting points.
Brake lines and hardware.
Removal of factory TIB mounting points and suspension.
Uhm, paint?

Anyone whos been following this has probably noticed its not going well. I'm probably going to make a big change on this this weekend. Stay tuned.

Ruhh roh...
I have a couple choices to make come payday.
One choice makes the red Ranger a parts truck...
The other complicates this far worse than now...

I have to wait til Saturday to find out if either option is available. Don't want to give too much up. Yet. (kind of wish I could afford both but.. oh well)

So it's either the ranger or the bronco huh?
I'm a huge fan of broncos but having the bed on a ranger is darn convenient.
A bronco is nice though because you can take the family or friends.

The bronco is getting a 5.0 right?
