project Chknfkr!

There's Coles County auto salvage, north of Casey. Not terrible far from Charleston really.. Another yard in Mattoon on Dewitt Ave. Stutesmans south of Casey.

Do they let you wander and hunt down what you're looking for? Pretty reasonable prices?

The only one around here where I live in East Tennessee where I live that will let you walk around in the lot is Pull-A-Part, back many years ago, there was one up the road from me that use to, but someone got hurt and sued him, so now none is allowed on the lot but him and his guys.

Thanks to bird man here the truck (cab and chassis) are here in charleston. Everything that makes it go is still in lincoln in about 1000 pieces, but the truck itself was by far the hardest part to move. Thanks so much bird!

No problem man. I had nothing better to do during the day today, and unloading a truck and talking about Rangers was well worth the time. Even though you nearly got killed. lol

Life's not worth living if you don't almost die every once in a while.

So you have a garage/ workspace in Chucktown now?

Cool. I can see the project closehand when I come back to IL :)

Something i've been trying to find around here is a good junk yard. Know of any?

yep, there is also one on the Hutton-Westfield Road, (about 10 miles or so from Chucktown) but he is fairly limited in what he has... Not sure he has Ranger or Fseries parts...

If you want to do a 45 minute drive, try Eatons salvage just outside Windsor. you can walk through and pick what you want. it looks like a disorganized mess, but Roger Eaton has a pretty good idea of where everything is, just ask him what you are looking for and he will point the way.

And if you are ever in the Indianapolis area, we have two great you pull junk yards. give me a holler and I can show you where they are. both have quite a bit of Rangers in them.

Those are some serious axles, A friend and I found an old millitary truck sitting out in the woods, we joked about using its axles but looks like your actually going to make it work.

Cool, I wish my budget allowed for stuff like this, instead of just stuff other people want to throw away, lol. One day!

In the mean time I will just watch you complete yours, it's about 1/10 as much fun.

Unfortunately this build is a fair bit outside my budget. Doesn't mean it's going away, just slowing down a good bit.

If i were in your shoes i'd see about buying that thing (if its been sitting in the woods for a good while you might snag it for free) even if it doesn't run and needs way more money thrown at it than you ever would doesn't mean you can't make profit off of it. Depending on the series of truck you came across, it's very likely there isn't a part on it that has been manufactured in the last decade or four. You could make a killing parting it out on ebay or steelsoldiers.

If you end up using the axles, do what everyone told me to do, don't open them up, just repack the bearings and run them till you can't anymore. I should have listened, it's gonna cost about $1800 per axle in wheel bearings and seals, spindle bearings, kingpin bearings and shims, pinion bearings and seals, intermediate shaft bearings and shims, carrier bearings, axle seals, etc... That's just to get them back to factory condition...

I am a perfectionsist so it will happen, slowly, one bearing, seal, and shim at a time if thats what it comes down to.

All the bits and pieces from this truck i don't want or need are for sale HERE
