Project Apple Bottom

I built it, took me a couple hours "after hours" at work.

Just for some inspiring shots of what is to be expected out of this project, and while I was waiting for the driveline shop to call me, I decided to mount the adaptors I made to the stock front axle, and the results are..... well, they hold the truck up under it's own weight, soooo thats always a plus, once I get the rear driveshaft I'll take her for a spin and see how they hold up going up and down the road a little ways.

Here's the shots...

Now, for the front axle, I still have to get it re-geared with 4.10's, but before that, I need to measure and fab up my spring mounts on the frame (I'm going leaf sprung instead of coils, to keep with the "superduty" feel [pre-2005, 6, 7, whenever they went to coils]) Then I need to get my spring packs mounted in there, I believe I'm going with the same as what I've got in the rear, Chevy 1500 stock rear springs (the 63-inchers). Then I have to weld up the spring perches and shock mounts to the axle, get a cable operating system for the Central Axle Disconnect, so I don't have to rig up the vaccuum pump. Then probably buy another set of wheel spacers, and stick it in! Then I just have to finish the body work on the bed, and that phase of the project is complete, I'll probably drive it for a summer with the gas engine, then the summer after that work on getting that diesel swapped in!

wow.... Im diggin the truck a chrome diamond plate flatbed would be killer too go with the diesel. Its gonna look like a mini "hot shot" truck if you know what that is. Should build a small 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer for it for kicks lol.

I wish there were more updates, but this project has come to a screeching halt, partly due to a lack of funds, and mostly to do with the fact that I just bought a new motorcycle, and the weather is nice (I don't have a garage to work in, as you can see) so whenever the weather is nice I've been cruising around on the bike instead of working on the truck.

I definitely like the idea of a flatbed, but I also like the idea of it looking stock with a normal bed on it, I'm torn, and I don't know what way to go with it right now. I guess I could always make both, and have the flatbed mount using the same 6 bolts as the bed, so I could just swap beds whenever I felt like making it look different.

give the project to me and ill finish it haha

really goes to show how much school "work" gets done at alfred , hahahahaha

nice job on it though , i would have loved to have seen that truck at alfred

Sorry guys, nothing! The front axle is still sitting in my barn waiting to have the old spring mounts cut off, and new spring perches welded on. The bed is still sitting outside of the barn up on sawhorses. I have the old bedsides cut off and the stepsides hung by the bolts on top, but I need to put it back on the truck to get the bottom of the bedsides lined up with the body.

Too little time/too little money!

Oh yeah, and the diesel engine is still sitting out on a skid covered with a tarp, waiting for a tranny/transfer case to mate to it.

Sorry for the dissappointment.

this thing is so cool. but arnt u gonna have a problem trying to stop any trailer that u would need a dualie to pull just because rangers are so light?

With a Dana 60 in the front I think stopping will be just fine.

i dunno... because isnt it the vehicle weight i know that weight ratings like 1/4 tons and such go by the axle not the suspension. but im saying that if ur pulling a 30'000 lb trailer with a 2'500 lb truck i dont think its gonna stop. i could be wrong but thats my understanding

I almost went to Alfred.. ended up going to Delhi instead, it's close enough to me that I can still live at home and commute 4 days out of the week.

I'm not going to be towing anything ungodly heavy anyways, If i do have to tow something like that, thats what I have the Super Duty for. Even if I did, isn't that what trailer brakes are for?!?
