So I know this makes two build threads that aren't actually RBVs but what ever. I'm sure some one will follow this at least a little bit.

The other day I woke up and said to myself, "I want a bike!" I looked around on CL. The first call I made, I mentioned I could check out the bike after I got done teaching guitar. Well, their daughter was interested in taking guitar lessons, so we worked out a deal. I paid 150 bucks plus a few guitar lessons for a brand spankin' new to me 1972 Yamaha DT360.

Me and Mitchy worked our asses off on the bike the last few days.

Fresh fluids all around, cleaned carb, new air and fuel filter, cleaned/treated the gas tank, rigged up a Baccardi bottle as a temp gas tank, gathered all the missing pieces needed for the carb, made a spark plug fit with an angle grinder, and got a 36 year old bike on the road again.

There's still an issue with the clutch. It dies everytime the bike clutch is engaged and the bike isn't moving. Advice is nice, but I'm sure we'll figure it out when there's more time to play.

The rain felt like bullets as I hauled ass as I cruised around my neighborhood. Awesome feeling actually.

I think the bike is running way rich and is causing it to die when the clutch is being dis engaged.When you get back we'll have to pull the plug to confirm this but if it's true this could fix all the problems.(fucking carbs)

the clutch problem is probably related to your clutch basket. after that many years the friction plates ahve worn grooves into the fingers on your basket and when you pull in the clutch at a stop the clutch plates dont want to move out of the grooves, causing it to stall. my first time racing my bike indoors i had this happen on the starting line and had to sit out my qualifier laps. i got a spot in the LCQ but then i fouled a plug half way around the first lap. that was not a fun 1st race, but it made me look at my bike closer and discover that my basket was badly grooved. i took a flat file and filed the grooves out and now it works fine.

Update:

The bike now runs fine. A ton of fine tuning with the air fuel mixture took care of it.

Now answer me this:
When at a stop and the clutch is engaged, it seems the engine begins to rev waaaaaay high when i'm off the throttle. There is no happy medium between no idle and tacing out. It's pissing me off but it's manageable.

Tomorrow I'm wiring up the lights, tac, speedo. It'll hopefull be road worthy / trail worthy in a few days.

Yes, there are great risks in riding bikes.

For one, STUPID KILLS.

For two, why not enjoy all life has to offer? I've said this before, but I know there there is a big difference between having fun and being a reckless fuctard. I'd rather enjoy my day and seize that carp (carpedium or how ever it's spelled) then be afraid of living.

I'm 18, I know i'm not invincible, but I'm not a pussy.

be safe bud. my brother just did his first track day today on the r6 and loved it. just make shure you dont make having fun more important that being reasonably safe. (yea i know do as i say not as i do) but seriously keep it safe. that little bike is a much better starter than the 1100cc katana my brother had for his first bike!
