hey were has everyone gotten programmers from i am looking at getting one but not sure which one to get or from where. i have a 2001 xlt with the 4.0 in it. i am looking at trying to get more power from it. i have done some research but they all claim to do the same so i am looking for personal opinions. thanks for the time

I went with the SCT X-3. They come with three different tunes, works as a data logger with a laptop, Code reader and reset, adjust your speedometer with tire and rearend changes. There are factory trained programmers out there that can come up with custom tunes for your vehicle setup and your needs. I got mine through rougeperformance.com but he's a 3.0 guy. Dynos his tunes on his own vehicle. You might be able to call SCT or go to their site sctflash.com for more info like what kind of tunes they have and who may do custom tunes for it. The unit has a MSRP of $470.00 but some discount them. It's really worth it.:headbang::icon_thumby:

Programmers

Probably too late for a reply, but what the hell. I just ordered my first programmer after spending many weeks/months researching; a SuperChips Cortex. My reasons are 1) A two year powertrain warrenty, 2) works on other Ford vehicles as specified (ie. my 07 Ranger and my son-in-laws 99 Expedition; 1 programmer - two or more vehicles); 3) updates from Superchips web site as Ford releases them, 4) their reputation.

I talked with the people at SCT about the Cortex and they couldn't do what I wanted the programmer to do. They sent me to SCT. The Cortex looked good but I wanted more flexability.

X2!! I got my programmer from Fred and I agree that he's got it goin' on. He's really helpfull.:icon_hornsup:

Superchips says 13.8 on my 07 Ranger, but the torque is what impresses me (+20). As I have the auto trans, a stronger, more solid shift is nice too.

I installed magnaflow cat-back duals, and a K&N cold air but then put on 31" tires and lost most of the power i had gained. I live in Alberta Canada and there ain't alot of performance parts i can get without spending a fortune.

Of course, I can only give you what I know, and I know that with my Superchips Cortex I can feel the performance upgrade. MSRP is $430, but Summit Racing sells them for $380. I am totally satisfied with it. I, too, have Magnaflow duals, and a K&N CAI. Put on the Cortex afterwards with much better ass-haulin!

seems like a pretty big investment for 11hp.......? I'll be gutting the cats.... and lift and adding some chrome to the 04, I just have heard such mixed reviews on programmers for gas engines.
