I dont know much about clutches or transmissions but i have a question about something that falls in one of the two categories.

I drive a 95 4cylinder 2wd 5-speed ranger. When i drive and shift into 2nd gear it grinds every time. Also when i try to shift into reverse it is abnormally hard to get it into gear. All the other gears shift fine its just those two. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

clutch master or clutch slave cylinder leaking, usually slave side, but master can wear out. Check fluid level in the clutch reservoir. If fluid is low or not seen, there is a leak somewhere. If it is full, there is a problem with one or the other (probably master).

Ok so should I fill up the resivour because it is empty? And the leak is internal correct because I haven't seen any fluid in the ground. Thanks for the help so far I'll do some investigating tomorrow.

Well if its leaking internally wouldnt it be a bad thing to keep filling it up?

If you stop filling it up, you won't be doing much shifting anymore. That fluid is necessary to create hydraulic (sp?) pressure, which disengages your clutch.
