i have a 2000 ranger , it has a factory cd player , i was going to put my kenwood head unit in it , i wired up the the adapter harness , i plugged it in , and viola..... nothin , i checked all my connections and they are good , if i plug my old stereo back in it works fine , but my kenwood just will not work , any suggestions on a fix for the problem ?

thanks ,
Dan

the only thing i can think of is wiring or possibly the fuse on the back of the kenwood.

i checked the fuse , it is fine , i know the wiring is all good , a friend suggested that maybe i would need a seperate grond on the radio , idk , all i know is that the fuse is good , i was thinking of redoing the wiring , i used a wal-mart adapter , i do not know if that makes a difference

The only thing that I can think of would be to check the wiring and making sure the wiring harness is fully seated in the back of the radio and the factory plug. Just in case you do not have a wiring diagram for your truck here is one.

2000 Ford Ranger Stereo Wiring

Right Rear (-) Brown/Pink

if all else fails you could pull the stereo out. pop the hood. ground the black wire. then touch the constant 12v wire to the + on your cars battery. if it still doesnt power, warranty that sucker.

also i know this sounds dumb, but who knows it may help. when i pull the battery or when i first installed my headunit, when i turn the ignition key to acessory, its doesnt power on. i have to manually push the dial for it to power on.

try plugging in the antenna some kenwoods will not turn on unless the antenna is grounded. You should not need a different ground off the harness. The other thing to do is take a test light and check the constant 12v+ and the Ignition 12v+ if one of them is not getting power that will be a problem. on the truck side of the harness the radio 12v+ is lt.Green, Ignition is yellow/black, and ground is black. Make sure the harness is pinned correctly its rare, but i have had it happen before.

actually , i tahink you may have something with the antenna thing , my antenna was rusted into my factory radio , so now the end is broken off of it and it cannot be plugged into the radio
