Been a little while since I've been on here (a recent divorce will do the darndest things sometimes).. But I need a hand with something that should be a relatively simple task.

When my CEL came on a while back I read the code (forget what it is exactly now) but it was to the effect my coolant sensor. I replaced it (bitch of a time getting it out too) and went to clear the codes as per the instructions found in technical by removing a wire while codes were being displayed and the CEL will not clear and I still get the same code. Part is new. I noticed my temperature gauge has a better response now so to me I'd say the new sending unit is working properly. I can't get it inspected like this!!!

I also read not to disconnect the negative as that will throw an additional code. But someone also told me to hold the + and - together and tap the brake to pull any stored energy out that could also be maintaining memory.
I'd rather not get raped in labor fees for them to pass me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brother, I think you replaced the wrong sender.

The sender with one wire drives the gage.

The sender with two wires feeds the computer.

To clear the codes, disconnect the battery Neg. terminal, turn the headlamps on then off, then reconnect the battery.

+1 the sending unit for the gauge shouldn't throw a code. The one for the computer(in a tee connected to heater core lines i think on yours) may be the culprit. Or your sensor could be functioning properly and the truck isn't running within expected temperatures.
