i was i a performance site for ford porbes and found out there was a 200 hp 165ft lbs.torque Japanese version of the 2.5 v-6. does the 2.5 share the same bellhousing as the 3.0. i own i 1994 ranger 3.0 5spd. and im looking for an engine to swap but dont need all the power and weight of a 5.0. i like the 3.0sho engine but have never read of some one bolting it up to the 3.0s 5spd.

Do NOT take this as the advice of an expert...but I think the 3.0 is unique in its bolt pattern. ALSO, the 2.5 is setup for a transaxle not a transmission and rearwheel drive. I dont think that will swap in like you would like even if the bolt pattern issue could be gotten around.

Do NOT take this as the advice of an RKI either, but AFAIK, all these Ford engines are "modular" by design--i.e. can be bolted up to a number of drivetrains, both FWD and RWD. Just trying to give you hope. (Would LOVE to know what the 2.3L TURBO would do in a Ranger 4x4... :icon_thumby: )

IIRC the engine you're talking about is a member of the "Lima" family, and WAS used in RWD platforms like the T-bird Turbo Coupe, etc.

But yeah, the fact that the M5OD bell housing is integral to the gearbox housing makes the swapping game a bit more involved. Good luck.

PLEASE KEEP US POSTED... we all learn.

The KL-ZE is not part of the lima family at all....in fact, its not even a ford engine. Its a mazda engine that originated out of japan. The american version (KL-31 I believe) is what is found in the mazda 626 and probe gt's. I highly doubt there would be any way to mount this motor in a truck, and if you could, the power characteristics of the engine wouldnt suit a truck at all. I have personally installed one of these "JDM" engines in a probe gt a few years back. If your looking for more power, upgrade to the 4.0...

D'OH!!... :black_eye: ...

Note to self: read more carefully, don't post under the influence...
