I want to pull the carpet and wash it. I was thinking of using a pressure washer (gently) after I took them out. :dunno:

However, I am afraid that it will distort their shape and they won't fit back in the truck correctly.

Anyone have any experience with doing this?

I have just used a Bissell carpet steam cleaner with the hose attachment. It works great and you don’t have to remove the carpet and hope it goes back in correctly. It dries pretty quickly as well. If you don’t already have them get real good floor mats.

I used to detail cars for a Mercedes dealership when I was much younger and in extreme cases we did remove carpet and pressure was it. I would spray it with simple green, scrub it with a brush, and then use the pressure washer to rinse. Never had an issue with distorting the shape of the pre molded carpet.

I detailed autos for roughly 10 years, the pressure washer wont hurt the carpet. Keep in mind 2000psi is plenty. Have done this lots on budget crew cab rentals coming back from logging camps, tree planters etc.

I did this to my wives Honda. The carpet was so bad, I took it out, went to one of those car washes where you put the quarters in, hung it up on the metal clamps they put on the wall for your floor mats, and pressure washed the heck out of it.

Just make sure you scrub it with a good cleaner and scrub brush first.

Hang it up and make sure it's dry before you stick it back in.

Take before, during and after photos. Maybe we can make a tech article out of it.

I took my GMC's carpet out and power washed it after a very thorough scrubbing with simple green.

Actually I:

Power washed it until it ran somewhat clear (or clear-er)
Scrubbed the **** out of it with simple green (hot)
Hooked the hose up to the hot water faucet and rinsed it with the hose sprayer
scrubbed the **** out of it again with simple green. (hot)
Power washed it with scalding hot water until no more suds.
let dry on a board stretched between 2 ladders for 5 days. Be sure to keep the dew off of it.

The insides no longer smelled of animal feces/farm, and my carpet looked damn near new. Fit perfectly fine afterwards. I highly recommend it for nasty carpets.

Did my crx carpet last week at the local car wash, pressure washed with soap and then rinsed it then let it dry in the sun.
came out super clean!!

I always use the pressure washer to clean my carpet, and it works great. As a tip, be careful not to get the nozzle too close.

It worked great. Now I have to find and fix the leak that caused the problem.

I have even power washed the seats early on a warm day and by afternoon they were ready to put back in.
