I bought a new clutch kit for my '86 Ranger (2.9L V6) and the fingers on the pressure plate are higher then on the old pressure plate. It says on the site i bought it from it's the right part but it's definitely different. The release bearing is also different looking. Could it be that the new slave cylinders are shorter? they do look slightly different then the one I have. I'm swapping a diesel engine into the truck so I guess i could make the adapter thicker so that the slave cylinder isn't constantly pushing on it. I know this doesn't seem like it's urgent because the truck has no engine but i posted it here because I don't have a whole lot of time before i can't return the parts.

Did you buy anything funky? They are springs so some deformation is normal... But things should match. Did you order year, make, model or Trans #? You may have a different years slush box or just bad parts. Do the number of spleen match? Since it's apart take in the new pieces to match/call the supplier.

Also, clutch kits MUST be brand name. Sachs, excedy, LUK, etc. Some of the low ends will put out 9in diameters against 8 5/7 actual, etc.

It's a Luk clutch kit and it says it's for my truck. Only thing I can think of is that it's for the Mazda transmission that came in some trucks. When ever i go to the parts store and ask for parts their computer always comes up with it having a mazda trans. Here's some pics of it all. The pressure plate on the old one sits 1/32 farther back from the housing then the new one and as you can see the new clutch pressure plate is taller. It looks like i'm going to need a new slave cylinder too, when I tried to push the fingers of the pressure plate down with it the piston slid (with alot of pressure) and got stuck

Pics aren't showing for me. It's either a Mitsubishi fm145 or toyo on an 86. That's why you have to order Trans parts by the Trans because it could also be another swapped in. What's the Trans code for the part and what's the truck/tranny marked?

My truck has the FM145 trans. None of the cites I've found selling the clutch list which trans it's for and when I contacted them they didn't seem to know. I returned the clutch I got and I'm going to order one that looks right. I know that Auto Zone has the right one but they're a lot more expensive so I'm crossing my fingers i get it right this time

Did you already order? What about Advance Auto? They have a 30% discount code for orders over $50. I'm pretty sure it's "TRT30"

Returned it and bought one that looks right, should be here soon.

Rock Auto Parts has both clutch kits, the first 3 cheap ones are the right one for the Mitsubishi trans
