Prerunner RC Build

Well this is just a teaser because I ran out of oxygen for the torch :pissedoff:

Frame mount attached for the beam.

Radius arm mount. Thinking about maybe attaching this on the side of the frame rail intsead so it's not hanging down to catch on things? What do you guys think? I'm going to go look at a few builds now to see how it's done on the real truck.

Definitely needs fender work now

Some drop out action

There are a few tweaks to make. I flipped the hubs around so the hub assembly has the right caster angle but the radius arm ends aren't the correct length so they're causing the top of the beam to tilt forward. I'm just going to shorter the top rod end on the radius arm until it brings the beam back straight up and down then I'll have the caster from the hub assembly correct. After I get that sorted I'll go ahead and mount the other side. I think the beams are going to rub slightly because the beam thickness at the intersection is slightly thicker than what it will be on the final parts. Shouldn't be a big deal though, I left room on either sides of the hubs so that I can shim them to the front or the back of the beam so the wheel base can be adjust slightly to match the opposite side.

Oh as you can see I moved the mount on the beam for the radius arm too.
What would you guys do for that frame mount for the radius arm?

Looks good.

The radius arm brackets are mounted to the bottom of the frame on a real TTB/TIB Ranger.

WOW....
Sick cad program.
And very nice work man.

Oh, and please tell me you're doing a wicked 3 link setup in the back? Or have you not gotten that far yet?

By no means do I take credit for this picture but HOLY JEBUS
Maybe the RC project will turn out similar? :icon_thumby:

That thing is SIIIIICK! I might have to take some of that into consideration! I do know I'll most likely be cutting the front frame rails back so I can add the tube work for the front bumper and skid like raceranger did on his prerunner.

Not the progress I was hoping to make but having a 3 month old at home will do that I suppose :D

Radius arm brackets and beam brackets are brazed on. Changed the caster on the beams so they're sitting correctly. Was hoping to get the shock mounts done but that's going to take some more work. I need to swap around the links that adjust the axle C's caster so that I have room for the shock to mount to the beam. The shocks can mount up now but I can't lean them back for the proper angle. Going to pack it all up tomorrow and take it into work to try and get the shock mounts bent up.

Here's the full stuff now. I could get more if I change around some clearance on the beams. The beam mount contacts it and keeps it from being able to go all the way up to the frame.

Won't know how much actual drop out it has until the shocks are mounted up but it's capable of a lot!

Jeepers.
Freaking amazing man
And those wheels are dope! Where did you get them?? I have a Traxxas Rustler :)

They're from a 1/8th scale Associated SC8 truck. You would have a heck of a time getting them on your rustler. They're 17mm hexes and the offset is probably A LOT different than your stock wheels.

Are you making the shocks yourself? if not i would get some HPI Big bore aluminum ones or some Team Losi LSTXXL shocks.

I thought about making shocks but quickly talked myself out of it. Right now I've been using Savage shocks for mock up since they seem to be about the right length. Their diameter is to big but not sure what other options I'll have. I've heard that HPI has some nice shocks for the flux version so I'm going to look into those.

Oh ok. I've been wanting to get some conversions so I can run beadlocks from a Slash.

If I'm not mistaking the rustler and slash use the same parts mostly. I know they both run 12mm hexes for the wheels front and back so I know for sure that you can use slash wheels on your rustler. The only thing that might be different is the offset. Pretty sure the front rims have around a zero offset and the rear rims are positive offset (narrower track width)

hmm well are you using both savage shocks for each wheel or just one? The HPI big bore shocks are the ones the flux uses and they are bigger in diameter than the savage's shocks but there is only one per wheel.

They make the big bores in both metal and plastic.

I plan on using a single shock per wheel. I have about 3 different spring rates to try with them. I just wish they were smaller in diameter.
