Prepping for coil over swap & have questions

I am prepping for a coil over swap on my ranger. I have all the parts EXCEPT limiting straps.

Are limiting straps REALLY needed?

Right now I am looking for anyone who has a coil over setup for some tips, advice and hopefully pictures. I also need some guidance on removing the torsion bars properly. I am in no way a mechanic, but certain things like working on the ranger for this kind of stuff is something I pick up on pretty easy.

Any help would be appreciated!
 
Limit straps are recommended so you do not over extend your coilovers. If you are not going to get crazy with it then they can wait. Also just use a three prong gear puller or you can use a bottle jack to take your torsion bars off.
 
Cool thanks! On the torsion bars, Do I just unbolt them from the frame and they come off?

If you dont get limiting straps, (which are dirt cheap btw) you run the risk of destroying your shocks by overextending them, which can cause the shock to fail or damage shock mounts and the like. My friend had a 2002 Ranger 4x4 which he broke one of the shock mounts the first day he had his truck back from the shop after lifting it lol

Im not sure if a lack of limiting straps were to blame for his shit breaking, but yes certainly better safe than sorry. Having to replace your shocks after only a few trips off the pavement is never a good thing.


When my friends truck broke, it was really funny to me... It was riding on the bump stop on the drivers side front corner, and hes all like "crap I cant turn to the left" to which I replied "then only go right." lol

You need to hold tension on the key and take the bolt out, then slowly relieve the tension. Been a long time since I messed with torsion bars.

It's easy. Once you get under there you can see what's going on. I changed mine out by myself in my apartment parking lot like 6 years ago without a problem.
