pre-heater hose spout on a multiport engine??

IAC valve needs to feed air to the engine side of the throttle plate, so usually it is on the intake(with the throttle plate)
Its purpose is to control the engine idle RPMs by adjusting air flow past a closed throttle plate, it is in essence a controlled vacuum leak.

I suppose you could put it anywhere and run a hose to intake(engine side of throttle plate) and it would work, air cleaner(engine side) would be the logical choice(cleaned air).
But economically putting it on the intake manifold would make more sense.

Pre-heating hose?
What year?

'87, 2.3 gas, 5 speed manual, 2wd.

Makes sense. Also, figured out that spout of the exhaust manifold is for the EGR.

Iac

Ive never seen one mounted on the air box before now. Then again Ive never had to work on anything older than a Gen 2. If it bothers you too bad see about swapping to an upper intake plenum from a 2.3 with 8 plug head as they have the IAC mounted on the intake downstream of the throttle blade.

I kind of like it there, it's a lot easier to get to, lol
