our prayers are with you..

I completely forgot about this thread, things have been so busy the last few months. but i wanted to thank every one of you for your thoughts and prayers. i wish you guys knew how much they meant to me.
it's been just a tad over a year since my mom had her heart attack. we've always been really close and had a good relationship and i don't know what i would do if she wasn't still around.
she ended up having a major heart attack early on jan 17. when the ambulance arrived she had another arrest and they had to revive her in the ambulance. when she got to the hospital she was stable, they ended up doing an emergency cath and opened a blockage. the doctors were very optimistic about the results and expected her to be able to go home in a few days. we later found out that she went for somewhere around 6-7 minutes without oxygen. early on 18th she started to have many more cardiac arrests and seizures. i can vividly remember remember trying to sleep that night and hearing over the intercom. 'code blue ICU 201' and the doctors all ran in to her room while we had to wait down the hall. she ended up having 5 more arrests that night. finally when things calmed i talked to the cardiologist off to the side and she said that my mom had a 5% chance of making it through the night but if she could make it through the night her chances of survival were much higher. finally that night she stopped seizing and having arrests. as a few days passes they continued to closely monitor her and doing EEG's. He brain activity wasn't much and it appeared that she was having more seizers and her brain was still swollen but it was too early to tell if it caused any damange or how much.
my dad, sister, brother, grandparents on both sides of the family took over the waiting room outside of her room for 1 month while she was in ICU. we took turns staying over night and during the day, there was never a minute when she was alone. we had so many cousins, and uncles, and friends always coming by and bringing us food and drinks, things to help entertain us. so many people i've never met, people from my parent's church and co workers. from day one we were hardly ever alone which was really comforting. over about a month's time mom starting coming to, responding to a few little things but the neurologist said that she would be in vegitative state forever and be luck to even be quadraplegic. we dismissed all the negative information and stayed positive. deep down i always seemed to feel this odd calmness and knowning that everything was going to be ok but it's hard to focus on that during all the chaos. after about 5 weeks they moved her ICU to CCU. this is when she started making the more progress. she started moving her legs and arms around, and turning in bed. although still unconcious, this made it difficult to sleep because we were alway worried she would throw herself out of bed. after a two weeks or so of this she eventually opened her eyes, then recognized people. about two weeks after that she started moving her mouth to talk but she had a trach. in her throat. the Dr's replaced it with one that would allow her to speak. after some practice she could talk a little. shortly after that she was moved from CCU to physical therapy. by this time she could talk but struggled and could sit up. while she was in therapy they pushed her hard to use her arms and hands to feed herself. it was difficult to watch because she'd get so upset from dropping her food in her lap or having someone help her and she's a pretty strong willed lady. therapy helped her a lot, after 10 weeks of being in the hospital she was let go. it was so difficult going to the hospital every day and staying 3 to 4 times a week, going straight to work, then home to shower and change, then back to the hospital and do it all over again. but between all the friends and family there, and of course therangerstation it wasn't too bad. a little over a year later my moms walking around almost 100% fine, she walks up and down the stairs, rides her 3 wheel bike around, cooks dinner, reads books and all. you almost can't tell anything happened except sometimes her muscles jerk a little bit and her right peripherial vision isn't that great. it's amazing the progress she's made, even now. if i don't go over there for 3 or 4 days in row i swear i can tell a difference in her hand writing or speach or walking.
it's nothing short of a miracle and i can't thank each and every one of you enough. through all this i've learned there are tons of selfless people out there willing to do anything for someone they've never met. and it's those kind of people that this world needs more of. god bless.

Steven

I'm glad to hear it all turned out alright. Clearly God has rewarded the faith of you and your mother, who must have helped instill the faith strongly in you. God Bless
