i picked up a 04 ranger.. long story short i put a motor in it and pretty much gave it to my ole man for christmas.... i got all the little bugs worked out of it except the power window on the pass side.. i thought the motor was bad but its not.. if you put power to the motor, you can get it to go up and down.. the driver side switch doesnt work. and the pass switch is weird.. if you power the window down the switch will move the window in the up position but you have to press DOWN on the button to bring it up.. doesnt do anything the other direction. i swapped both switches.. checked for power and what not.. i cant figure it out... i did try something tho.. i think it was the white/yellow wire. if you ground it. the switch works. but works backwards and the driver switch still doesnt work.. what do you guys think?

You need to get a manual on your truck. If you are not sure of what you are doing, you might cause an electrical fire. Get a manual, or go to a shop for help. Sometimes wiring issues are easy and then sometimes they are not. I had one buddy who almost burned down his garage after he rewired two power windows that were out. He thought he was sure he did it right. Something went wrong and the truck went up in flames at 2:00 in the morning.

Important: Make sure the fuses are all in good shape.

fuses are in good shape. an i do have a manual well the wiring diagrams from shop key... i didnt rewire any thing.. was just doing tests.

Sounds like the master switch is bad. All the other switches ground through the master, if it doesn't work the other doors will work oddly at best.

All I know from installing an aftermarket power window kit is.....there are cross-over wires that run from the drivers switch to the passengers switch so the driver can operate each window....maybe the driver's switch is bad or somebody managed to re-connect the driver's swith wiring harness wrong when they worked on the drivers door....also--a bad groundwire or loose groundwire will make all kinds of stupid things happen.

that's all I got :icon_bounceblue:

check for broken wires in the harness between the doors and the body. I have fixed several similar problems, mainly with explorers, where i peeled back the acordian looking loom and found a broken wire in there.

so ive been playing with this problem. this is what i found out. if you do a conunity test on all the pins on the pass switch, you have a close loop circuit. and when you press up/down it be comes open... ding ding... that should be opposite? wire colors are... blue/black switch feed
white/yellow window up
tan/blue window down.
yellow red (to motor) window up
red/yellow(to motor) window down..

white yellow and tan/blue run from the driver side switch. i tested these wires and they have a good reading. if you ground the tan/blue wire on the pass switch the switch works... again down is up and up is down.. if you ground it on the driver side switch NOTHING works.. if you ground the white/yellow on either switch nothing changes.. iam pretty stumped. i figured it was a ground problem... well then the driver switch shouldn't work.. but that's not the case.

Switches are fine, we pulled switches from a truck that had known good power windows and tried them with the same result, also put the switches from this truck in that one and they work just fine. The two "runners" (wires from the driver to passenger side) have continuity as they should. Have the pinpoint tests for the windows as well as good wiring diagrams.

You might have to just go ahead and take it somewhere. One of my buddies went to the Ford dealer where he bought his 2004 Ranger. The passenger side window will not come up or down. He thought about fixing it himself but went on in to the dealership. They wanted like $400 to repair it. He called a mobile repir service that only does powerwindows and it was right at $145 to get it repaired.
