power mod

There isn't really anything you can do, besides a motor swap to a 4.0L. I mean, there are things like exhaust, headers, bigger throttle body, port the intake, but I don't think you can do much with that motor and still retain some low-end.

Bahahahahaha.... 3.0... power... same sentence? Nah, ain't really anything you can do... the 3.0 doesn't have power to begin with.

Easiest way to do it is get a donor vehicle with a good running 4.0, something that was rear-ended or rust took it over. Take pictures of the engine bay before you start, compare the wiring diagrams, and get started. Try to stick with a similar year donor vehicle. I've never done that particular swap though.

do the 5.0 swap.....exploder rear and diff transfer case and tranny your golden did it to mine and dear lord they like to move then

The 3.0 is pretty limited and it really isn't much more work to swap in a V8 than a 4.0.
In other words, a 4.0 isn't worth the effort when you can just sell the truck and buy one with a 4.0.
I mean, you add cold air induction, headers, exhaust, and a tuner or chip, but that'll all cost well over $1000 and the improvement will be negligible.
Main problem is that the 3.0 doesn't make a lot of torque and what torque it does make is up high in the rpm range. So if you've added bigger tires then you definitely need gears.
I used to have a '99 3.0 4x4. Great on gas but was the slowest POS I ever owned, and it was a stick. Frankly the 4.0 OHV used at the time didn't put out much more horsepower than the 3.0 but it had more torque at a lower rpm.

If you're going to do that, why not just drop in a DT466?

Ridiculous!

However, a 4BT is badass still and slightly smaller than the inline 6.

I think I've seen a YouTube Ranger with a 6BT in it as a bogger...
