I've seen people run 40s on a 4 cylinder and I've seen it on v8s.

What's the general consensus of how much is enough for 40s?

I wheel with a few guys running 40s on 5.3/6.0, 5.38 gears, and there all shooting for 550+

40's....?? to cruise with or just wheel.?.?

i run 42,s and 44,s with @110 whp v8 n/a diesel and 410 gears.

and i can still break dana 60 shit with that ridiculous combination. but it has ok torque available from 1400-to 3600 so it is tolerable....just slower then smoke off shit...

but it sucks being rpm limited with the diesel off road...cruising it does pretty good....i just dont use od till i get on flat hiway at higher speed....70 ish...

gearing is the equalizer....to an extent. terrain goals determine the power level needed.

i miss being able to go to 6-7000 rpm off road. it makes things much easier to navigate.

With tires that size can we assume trail rides and rock crawling? If so you don't need all the power, you need low gearing and a doubler is nice.

If your ricky rally racer then the tires are too big and you'd want more power from a V8 or blown 4.0 IMHO.

If you are daily driving it and out to trails some compromises may be necessary.

4.0l with 5.38's on 40's. Seems fine.

Just trail riding a stock engine and low gears is fine. If you're into the bouncing thing 400+.
