what are your thoughts on these power chips. what brand should i get or should i not waste my money. trying to get a lil more power for towing and i live off busy highway and need power to jump out in it

no body is responding to this because if you had used the search function you would find your answer. however i read on a explorer forum that they did not give more fuel mileage, but at certain parts of the torque band the rig did feel more powerful, and it rose the rev limiter.

couldnt hurt to try. sounds like your interested. if you have the cash, try it out let us know what happens.

I have an idea.

If you need more power for getting out on the highway and towing......

get something....

other than....

a 4 cylinder engine!!!!

Bet a 4.0 would work a lot better.

Don't waste your money. All they do is trick the computer into feeding the engine more fuel by by lowering the reading on the temp sensor. More fuel does you no good unless you have more air to go with it.

More power for towing requires a bigger engine or better gearing. Better gearing would also help you getting into traffic.........

Although...... if I can safely move 90,000 pounds of tractor trailer into traffic then you can safely move a ranger into traffic.

"chips" do absolutely nothing for performance or mileage. It's like adding a bigass spoiler to a civic. Useless.

Now tuners on the other hand actually do something. No idea if they make them for 4 bangers though.

^^What he said. I have several buddy's who have used the programable tuuners and they swear by them. I have never used a chip or a programmer before. I like my 99 4.0 as it is. You can get them on Ebay (the same ones my buddy's got and really like). They are under $400. Search you year truck and motor on Ebay. I know I see them for the 3.0 and 4.0 but never really looked for the 4 banger motor programmer.
