May be changing jobs/locations and moving from NW Tennessee to Southern Illinois. My questions are: Where to wheel in that area, is there a state vehicle inspection, where to find out more about the cities around Red Bud as far as cost of living, demographics, schools, etc?

no vehicle inspections unless you are around chicago

Mostly national forest around there. Not sure if there are any places to wheel there. But Interlake is about 2 hours east.

Red Bud area is pretty nice... I went to school in Waterloo and live south of Red Bud probably 20-25 miles now.

The schools are pretty decent public and private. It is a short drive to Saint Louis area and alot of people commute into the city for jobs, but jobs are available locally if you look for them.

I am not sure on the price of the housing, but it isn't bad.

Not really any hardcore wheeling areas locally, but several within driving distance for weekend trips.

Red Bud actually had a community college school there where you can take some of the classes offered at the main campus, my wife attends there now. If you have any questions ask or PM me and I will see what I can find out.

Union city? How far is that from KNoxville? WHy arent you in our tennessee thread?

I am in the far NW corner of TN. A good 6 hours from K-ville. I am a slacker is why I'm not in that thread.

Red Bud is a pretty small town. Really nice place and the beer is cheap... is there anything more you need to know.

Gave up drinking years ago. Just need to find my wife a teaching job around there if I get the call. I understand Illinois pays teachers really good compared to the rest of the US. Number 4 overall for average pay and #1 when you factor in cost of living.

I have heard the same about good pay and benefits for teachers. Cost of living is pretty low as well. I can't say for sure about Red Bud, but DeSoto, MO is a stones throw across the Mississippi from Red Bud and the houses pretty cheap around here. The only thing about Illinois is they are strict with gun laws, although that may not matter to you.

People don't willingly move to Illinois. They are sentenced to be there.
