Hello all, I have a '95 ranger 4x2 4.0 5spd. The steering feels a little loose, but not really detectable when I look at the box. All my other vehicles are rack and pinion, and I'm looking into whether or not ford made a steering box with quick ratios or variable ratios before they finally went to rack and pinion. I'm already planning a bigger sway bar, but wondering about the box also. Thanks

The stock steering will never feel like a high end sports car. There is some inherent play in it. There is an adjustment for the backlash. But you must be careful not to set it too tight or damage could occur. There is a tech article that mentions it. Otherwise, you could replace the box with new, refurbished or different model.

Thanks eric, I know what you mean, one of my cars is a BMW, not really one of their best, but it will spoil you for sure. I think I'm going to put a reman box in it, and beefy sway bars on both ends.

Good to hear you have a BMW. Keep me employed. I'm at the manufacturing plant in SC.
