Last night I was driving my BII and I could feel a grinding vibe coming from the front. Felt like metal to metal on the brakes but did it when I didnt have the brakes on and would stop when brakes were applied. Just replaced pads two weeks ago. Took wheels and manual hubs off and one side the looknuts had back off and wheel bearings look wore. I replaced both sides with new inner and outer wheel bearings but grinding noise is still there. Could the spindle bearings have gone bad as well. I didnt think about that when I saw the bad wheel bearing.

that could be it, hard to say though if you would feel it that much as that bearing is small and once it goes it pretty much turns to dust fast. If you decide to change them out do some searching on here for the correct part number as most people run into issues getting the right ones from parts stores.

If you don't have your hubs locked or the t case in 4x4 the front shafts aren't turning, so you would not be hearing a bad spindle bearing.
