Hey guys, I am replacing the auto trans in my 96 2.3L ranger. Is it absolutely necessary to remove the torque converter bolts? It's been so long since I have pulled a tranny I can't remember. I am replacing the TC along with the trans.

Yes. That's what connects the flywheel on the engine to the torque converter. if you dont pull those bolts, you're basically trying to remove the tranny AND engine down through the bottom of the truck. You'd play hell removing the tranny with the torque converter still hooked up.

worse yet you will more than likely to wipe out the front pump when you reinstall the transmission
