I had the output shaft seal replaced on the transfer case about a year ago. It was covered under warranty. Now the warranty is expired, and pinion seal on the rear diff is starting to seep. :annoyed:
The truck only has 24k miles on it. There's no reason these seals should be leaking this soon. Could my driveshaft be out of balance or something that's wrecking seals? Or am I just unlucky? I don't notice any weird vibrations or abnormal behavior whatsoever. Drives smooth as glass at all speeds. :icon_confused::dunno::annoyed:

You could just be unlucky. Honestly, the outer pinion seal isn't that hard if you have the tools and are mechanically inclined. If not an 06 with 24K, you might be able to go in a bitch enough to the Service manager to get it PO5'ed and still get warranty to cover part or all of the repair.

I am pretty mechanically inclined, but after some searching on here, everyone says you have to be careful removing/reinstalling the pinion nut or you can screw up the preload. (or something like that) Which is kind of scaring me off of this repair. I guess I'll first try convincing the dealer to fix it for free. I doubt they will. When I took it in for the t-case seal, they weren't sure if they were gonna charge me for it. They checked to see if my warranty was still good first. If my warranty was up, they would have charged me. If they won't do it for free, I'll probably see if my uncle's friend can do it.
