hi everyone.

last week i was going up a hill by my house in 4th gear and the truck reved up but didnt gain any speed. and then on the way to school the other day i was on a flat and i stomped on it in 3rd, 4th and then 5th and it did the same thing. it still does it in 4th. is that the clutch slipping? my dad and one of my buddies said it was but another buddy who works at a shop said it wasnt. what do you guys think?
thanks

Sounds like it could be to me. Do you notice any slipping taking off from a stop?

if your giving it throttle and seeing the tach climb(or hearing the engine rev) and you aren't gaining any speed, then yes your clutch is more than likely slipping. i just replaced mine last week after i tried to pass someone down a hill and it red lined in 4th without gaining any speed to pass. (i think it took 3 hours out and in) but i've done it before
good luck.

Quick was to check, put it in second gear at a complete stop. Rev the engine to 2500 rpm's. Side step the clutch, if it kills the engine, the clutch is tight, if it starts to take off....Clutch Time.

mine did the same and being the newb to owning a stick i drove it 2 days till boom went the clutch

I drove my 1990 2.3 for 3 months like that before I yanked the engine and rebuilt it to turbo spec and put a center force dual friction in.

It started as just a little slip when I would drop to 4th and gun it to pass. By the end of the 3 months, getting started in first was just a matter of sliding my foot of the clutch pedal and using the gas like it was an auto. It was kind of fun that way. It was great for teaching people how to drive stick because it was nearly impossible to stall it.
