I have made many previous posts about "rusty coolant". I seem to have been loosing coolant lately so today i am in the midst of flushing the radiator. Its about 55 degrees out and im noticing a considerable amount of white smoke with a little bit of water coming out of the tail pipe. Seems to be more than before i started flushing which would make my "block sealer" suspicion stronger. Engine shakes bad at idle and just yesterday stalled at start up then started up right after. I will be doing a compression check after i finish the flush and will post the stats on this thread. anyways, possible thaughts or oppinions? am i jumping the gun? and if i am going to do a upper end rebuild is there a really indepth thread on this or a book on doing the procedure other than chilton?:bawling::bawling:

to add to this , The truck does not overheat, butt i think that just may be a sticky thermostat. which i am changing today as well. any light on this subject would be greatly appreciated. and sorry if this thread is not posted in the right area

Yup!

Cold engines make all sorts of smoke and drip water (condensation). If you do have a blown headgasket or cracked head you will be puking coolant out and the engine will OBVIOUSLY overheat.
Mearly having some rust in the coolant doesn't mean SQUAT! The water mixed in the coolant will eventurally cause some rust to occur and the coolant will in turn change to a rusty color.
Do the compression check with all plugs removed and the throttle held open..
Crank each cylinder till the pressure stops riseing. Then write down each cylinder and it's pressure so you won't forget..

Thank you i will be doing a compression check tommarow morning. By throttle held open, do u mean i should hold the gas pedel down while i crank the engine a couple times?

Ok I had this same thing happen to me on my 1999 Ranger and after changin all coolant system parts I finally broke down and found a hole in a head gasket. So I replaced the head gaskets but now my truck is leakin oil around the gasket. tried to retighten the heads and im still leakin. Any advice on that?????

Are you sure the heads aren't warped and its just not possible to get tight on one spot?
