Just changed my oil for the first time since getting this 4.0 94' ranger a few months ago. It had a Powerflo SL30001 filter on it from the former owner. I cut it open today and my God what a piece of chit! Although it did have a thread end bypass, the filter media was so cheap it would make a Fram OCD (Orange Can of Death) look like a B2 Stealth Bomber. The filter media was literally falling apart....looked like mush. Anyway I looked on Ebay and they want $7.99 for this piece of chit! Whatever...I'll stick with Motocraft at less than $4 at Walmart. FYI. BTW, I beat the chit out of this filter in the pic...just out of spite...I'm in a mood I guess.

I like K & N oil filters, more expensive, but very good quality.

Might not be a bad filter but yours may have not been changed in a looong time..

Do you really care where this was sent from?

We always buy Motorcraft oil filters for my Ranger, change it out every oil change. Usually change oil every 3-4k miles, mostly highway. I add a little oil in-between oil changes since she burns a little.

K&N are actually not so great for actual road use. Their oil filters have the same fatal flaw that their air filters do. The holes are too big they don't trap the small stuff.

I saw a test where the K+N filter was the same as a Mobile one filter the only difference was the nut welded on the K+N. You generally get what you pay for with filters just look at the many videos on you tube about cutting filters open to see what is inside.
