Looking for a reliable Portland local shop to work on my 91 2WD 5M Ranger. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Welcome to the site.

I do all my own work and the only shops I know people at are in Salem, but I'm fairly close, what exactly do you need worked on?

Cool place. I hope yall's weather is better than CA has had lately

Rear brakes, exhaust leaks, not sure if it will pass DEQ. Going to take it to the test station and hope it passes, if not, I’ll be looking for some help. I found a garage downtown, Steve’s Automotive, who may be able to help with brakes and exhaust, but their IR scanner is out of commission so they could not do a DEQ Assessment. Any thoughts or ideas welcome, thanks for the reply. Cheers!

Tell ya what I did one time in Tennessee, my 87 flunked for some reason and I did not know why.
I counted 5 emissions controllers on the truck, each one costing around $50.
I had an emissions place price was $250.00 for the test to tell me the cause.

I decided to try replacing one of the components I thought most likely, paid $50 and swapped it out. A week or so later went back through emissions and passed :D

How many miles on it? If it's had a somewhat recent tune up (plugs and wires) and runs good and still has the catalytic converter I imagine you'll be fine on the DEQ, I haven't lived in that range for over a decade but I had a couple clapped out explorers that passed fine, when you go to the test station try to go at a time where you aren't stopped in line too long and run around for a while beforehand to get the catalytic converter warmed up and into closed loop fuel control...

As to Josh's recommendation there's not much to a 2.3L, they have extra spark plugs on each cylinder so a misfire isn't likely if the engine runs ok, then most everything runs off the MAF sensor and crank sensor, the EGR doesn't do much where they're testing, the canister purge isn't a huge thing on these... if anything a can of MAF cleaner and a new oxygen sensor would be good things to try, all depends if it had issues 2 years ago last time it would have went through...
