Thought I'd show you all what I am doing to my heads, and maybe you can give me some tips?...

Making good progress on the head porting. About half way. I don't have long bits, so I can't get deep on the intake ports... And I should be getting gaskets tomorrow to compare.

Theres a good amount of pictures. As you can see, I got my sister to work on the sanding. Gave her a piece of 400grit paper to smooth out the exhaust ports after I took the file and stone to them.

Maybe after it's all finished, I could attempt to write a tech article...

I am really not the one to bring up caution but with Ford Heads you are dealing with are thin metal casting so go slowly and do not take off too much.

May I ask why you want to port the head ?
IMHO, you will gain sssooo little on the street at lower RPM that it will be almost a waste of time.
Matching the gaskets to the ports and MAYBE taking a little off of the Valve Stem will help but I still stress caution.

Luck

Yeah, I will take a little of the valve guide thing, and taking the exhaust bumps off completely, that should be 20hp for the bumps alone. I am not really looking for street performance, WOT performance will be there though.
It's a long job, but has lots of bragging rights and might bring them close to GT40 heads.

superman22x how did the porting job go ?

sorry I didn’t get back in here.

I was working at a machine shop this summer while I was building my engine. I got rid of the smog bumps and also took a little off of the exhaust valve guide bosses. I also gasket matched the intake ports. I also cut my seats for 1.84/1.60 valves, did a three angle valve job and put a 30 degree back cut on my intake valves. It takes a lot of time but it should be worth it. Also, I did not touch the walls of the ports at all (after seeing a couple of other people that were trying to port and got into the water jacket).
