alright whenever i change directions something in the rear of the truck does this. i've replaced 2out of 3 u joints and it still does this. . .why and how do you fix it? it never did it untill about 3 weeks ago then i started replacing ujoints

Open the differential cover and look inside for chipped teeth and stuff.

Are you 100% sure its the rear? How are some of the bushings back there?

Sounds like you need to open the diff cover and check the spider gears for damage. If they are good, try replacing all 3x u-joint and the carrier bearing.

It's not a limited slip is it? That sounds like chipped spiders or bad clutches.

its not a limited slip(no posi in it) and 2 of the ujoints have been replaced. the carrier bearing and remaining ujoint have to play or roughness at all. the pop only happens once when i change directions.

I'd say its the axle shafts moving side to side. That or look for any suspension pieces that are cracked/broken/worn.

I'd say its the axle shafts moving side to side.

That could be too. Is it a crunching, popping, pop-rocks kinda sound, or is it a single bang? See that all the time on chebbies.

Jack up your rear end, push in on the tire, then pull out on it and see if it makes your sound. If it does, go on ignoring it until an axles shaft falls out. If it's really driving you nuts, a new set of C-clips might fix it. Maybe. Either way, gotta pull that cover.

I wouldn't think the rear end would do that pop. when they go they will howl, constantly grind or pop once and be DONE with. U-joints would clunk/pop when you hit the gas or when trans shift gears

I would think that if you are changing direction it might be a bad cab/chassis mount or a broken/rusted cab/bed perch - possibly even a leaf spring shackle - hanger or something to do with the body leaning when you change directions...

have you did the jump test? Jump on bumper?:icon_bounceblue:

well i jumped on the bumber and notheing. i shook the rear of the truck and nothing. . .idk what it is. so i guess ill ignore it and just turn my radio up some more!

When was the last time you changed the rear end fluid? If it's been a while, pop the cover and have a look. New fluid in the rear is always nice anyway.
