Police car wheels on a Ranger?

this right here makes me think you haven't checked this page yet

I did a search, and all I found was what I already knew, the bolt pattern in the same. I could not find anyone that had used them. I could find no one that could tell me if the wheels fit past the calipers, nothing that told me if the wheels would rub.
I am not a moron, I spent quite some time searching. I even took the wheels out into the junk yard and tried to fit them to a ranger in the yard, but the only first gen out there with rotors still on it was too low to the ground to get the wheel on it.

well the bigger center hole dodge fit the d35 setup....but suck the tire way in

2wd not an issue in my experience with any of the rwd cop car wheels

:icon_confused: Not sure what point you are trying to make there?

To OP: Yes the Crown Vic wheels will fit. The 16" Crown Vic steelies will clear any (2wd) Ranger brake caliper. Where you could encounter an issue is with the backspacing. The Crown Vic wheels (same with Mustang wheels) have a lot more back spacing than Ranger wheels do, because of this you may encounter a rub issue. Most likely it would be at full lock which you shouldn't encounter during driving. The other issue you will likely encounter due to the backspacing is that the wheels are pulled further into the wheel well than stock, mostly an appearance issue. Both the rubbing and the appearance issue can be fixed by running wheel spacers. I haven't see too many people running the CV steels on older Rangers, but I've seen a few on newer Rangers without problems and they ran spacers mostly for apearance reasons. The newer Rangers would have a harder time fitting CV wheels than your first gen, because they have a larger brake package than you do.

No offense meant but your original post suggested otherwise. If you had told us this in the beginning you might have gotten some better responses. People around here are starting to get tired of noobie morons (or what ever you want to call them) that don't try to help them selves and expect everything to be handed to them. It's gotten to the point where if a question appears to to have that attitude, they give what ever smart ass remarks they cam come up with. You should see some of those posts, they've gotten crazy. The OPs who learn from it, laugh about it, and stick around become good forum members; the rest get but hurt, run away, and don't bother us again.

Post number 7 in the previous link:

i have the 17" steelies off the dodge charger rwd, not sure if awd back spacing is different. They fit just fine. seem to stick out a tiny more than stock wheels on my 95. the center hub bore on the wheel was the perfect size for the hubs on the ttb front end.

So looks like I just need to buy them and see how they work. If I need spacers I will get them

Loud Ranger can put what he wants to on his truck. This thread was about do CV wheels fit. You brought up Charger wheels. IMO if the bolt pattern doesn't match they don't fit. Yes I know that the pattern is close, but to me close isn't acceptable on what's between me and the concrete. That's the manner in which I am going to make my reply.

That's basically what it amounts to. They will bolt onto the truck no problem, the bolt pattern matches, the hub bore is good, and they should clear the calipers (definitely will if running spacer). The issue is whether or not you need/want spacers and how thick you need/want, you'll have to mount one and see.

He has never said what car they were on, just that they were black and had chrome hubcaps per his pic... which is basically what every cop car has reguardless of what badge is on the grille.

It is barely 1/32" different... I do wonder how many used sets of rims are that close or closer to spec.

Bobbywalter runs them too... and he seems to be pretty good at testing what works and what doesn't.

The new charger/challenger are 5 on 114mm a ranger is 5 on 114.3 they swap. Backpacking is the same as a jeep XJ rim.

Actually the new charger is 5 on 115mm. (I own a 09 Charger) the Ranger is as you said, 5 on 114.3. the size difference is so slight that you can physically fit the wheels on the Ranger, but you are going to have your lugs/ studs slightly cocked at an outward angle. Doing 70+mph for an extended period of time and hitting all sorts of road bumps and debris, I would not want to think what that would be doing to the rim or the lug studs...

I bet they won't be crooked at all. We are talking about .7mm measured across. That works out to almost no difference on the actual studs. There are dozen upon dozens of XJ guys running the 17" steel charger/challenger rims on the same rigs they drive to work. Hell there are guys who wallow out the lugs on 8 on 6.5" rims to mount them on 8 on 170mm rigs. That's 5mm off and still works...

They won't be crooked at all to the naked eye, but they will be when torqued down. if you look at the lug holes on the rim, they are tapered which means when torqueing them down the lug will hit the outside edge of the lug hole and draw inward. this will put stress on the lug studs and the wheel itself. While steelies won't show it very soon (you may go years before noticing any thing) alloy/aluminum wheels will show problems earlier on (lug holes will eventually elongate. any rough use such as offroading rock crawling will have a greater chance of snapping the lug studs on a normal configuration, with the studs having a side to side stress put on them due to improper spacing on the wheel holes will make that chance even greater.

Yes I am sure the couple tenths of a mm it is off will kill a bus full of nuns. It is also why universal 5 lugs only have one set drilled for 5 on 115 and 114.3.
