Iam replacing the plenum gasket and I've read that some people have used RTV sealant when installing the gasket. Is there any benifit to doing this?

Depends on the situation. I generally prefer to not use RTV on the upper intake gasket, sealant makes it a real pain to remove.

On my remaining 2.9 I do use it because the intakes have been powder coated and are not perfectly smooth on the sealing surfaces anymore and it helps ensure the seal.

If your sealing surfaces are not damaged I would not worry about using anything but the gasket.

The mating surfaces do have some blems on them and I figure a thin coat of rtv would give a tighter seal.
