Please tell me about OHV 4.0 engines

231,xxx miles on my tired 4.0 ('94 vintage). I can safely say that the motor is the only thing I DON"T worry about in the drive line. Transmissions and doublers are another story.

It doesn't have any problems motivating my junk around (about 6k lbs when loaded for the trail).

128k is how much mine has on it, I let it sit for 5 years so I had to change a few sensors, but it runs great. Just watch out for the intake gaskets, you usually need to retorque the bolts, though sometimes the gaskets need replaced. But yes, they are great engines, they made millions of them seeing how they were the only engine available in explorers for a while, and were used from '90-2000.
Yes, those pesky intake gaskets! Mine let go at near 200,000 miles.
My 5 speed manual trans wore out at about 225,000 miles, but the 4.0 is still running like a top!
The gaskets are time consuming to replace, but not difficult.
Tip: replace the lifters/pushrods while in there.
Rockledge tutorial is the best!
