For a 1995 3.0L: I rented the Fuel Pressure Tester from O'Reilly's. It was in new condition. With the KEY ON, ENGINE OFF, Press was @ 10 psi. At idle, with the vacuum hose on, it was @ 32 psi; At idle, vacuum hose disconnected: 40 psi. I tried the test several times. Once it was at 30 psi at idle with the vacuum hose on.
Is the Return Fuel Line the one that is under the intake manifold? When I pinched that one, the psi dropped from 32 to 28. When I pinched the other two there was no change in pressure.
The Chilton book says: Key On, Engine Off is supposed to be 35 -> 45 psi, At Idle, hose on: 25 -> 35, At idle, hose off: 35-> 45. They say that if you pinch the Fuel Return Line and pressure DOES NOT rise, the fuel pump is defective or there is a restriction in the fuel feed line.
Also, when I take the vacuum line off of the regulator, is DOES NOT smell like gas.
What could be wrong if my Key On, Engine Off pressure is @ 10psi? I relieved the fuel system pressure first. Am I just reading the relieved pressure and there is not anything wrong? Do I have a fuel pump problem if the pressure dropped 2 psi when I pinched the return line, if in fact I am pinching the return line?
All help is deeply appreciated.
