I put an 1992 ford 4.0 in my 1988 ranger to replace the 2.9. Well it ran fine for a few weeks then the ICM blew out so i replaced it and again two more weeks and its out again?? What could this be??

check all your grounds and wiring connections, esp if u spliced, double check that everything matches up like it is supposed to and everything is still wired solid. also check your wires to see if anything is rubbing and bare wire is exposed. sounds like a short, or the ecm is getting too hot

I swapped transmissions. and it didn't come with a power distribution box so i directly wired those 4 to positive terminal and all ran good.

How hot can the ICM get?

How hot is it getting?

Did you wire that stuff directly to the battery? I'd assume there's supposed to be a fuse or fusible link in there... could that maybe be part of your problem? Your engine harness wiring should be controlled by the ignition switch and if it's not then I could see your computer getting very hot and burning up because it is always powered on.
