For You Experts Out There!!!

Hi I have a 1998 Ranger 3.0 V6 with 290,000 miles on the automatic transmission. Every time i go around the 70mph region and it starts to shift the whole truck goes back n forth then i have to give it lots of gas and it finally shifts threw the to next gear. About half a year ago i dropped a new motor in it myself and i was already having the problems with the transmission b4 hand, but before the motor swap it would rock the whole truck every time it shifted a gear but i replaced the filter completely drained out every drop of the trans fluid and cleaned the transmission up. After doing so it only does the whole rocking motion around 4th gear, any suggestions on what I should do??? My theory is that the gears are slipping around that gear, but it only does the "rocking motion
" if i am gradually on the gas pedal if i stomp on the gas between the shifts its as smooth as can be. So could it be the gears? or do i have to finally just get a whole freakn new transmission....
Early thanks to all who reply!!!

Ryan
