I just bought my son a 1985 Ford Ranger 4 cyl. 4x4. On the way home i got stuck in traffic due to an accident, so i was stopping and going about 5 mph when the truck died. I pulled off to the side. Tried to start it and it died a couple more times. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and it started up and I drove it home with no further issues. I read on a forum about it possibly being a voltage regulator problem? Anyone have any other ideas/suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks!

Wow! nice '85! check the negative battery terminal for corosion or cracking.

Just had a similar problem with my bronco2, let it get hot and shut off then try testing the coil. When measuring the secondary circuit, mine would read barely good when cold then bad when it warmed up. It would give a very small spark at the end of the coil wire on the distributor, but not enough to run on.

Mine has this similar problem. Mine only happens when I go for a short drive and shut 'er off then try to start back up (like if I ran inside a store real quick).

It cranks over and sounds like it wants to catch, but won't. Let her sit for a hot minutes and she'll start right up and drive with no problems.

If the carb has an issue then the heating of the motor could be causing a fuel failure issue. I dont read where he mentioned knowing for sure its electrical, although it is a big possibility. The ground wire/battery terminal is a great suggestion as my as myh 92 does the same thing sometimes.

You guys rock thanks a lot for the quick responses. I will try the above things and let you know.
