Hey guys and girls im kinda new to this fourms and not sure how to find things but i figured i could get some help here i have an 89 ford ranger with a 2.9 v6 and a a4ld tranny that was just rebuilt about 40,000 miles ago well the truck has sat for 6 years and it was given to me by my grandparents i put a 5.5 inch lift in it with 33 12.50s and i just finished it today weill i went to the river by my houes and wasnt really weeling it but i was playing in the mud and the truck caught fire on me i belive it blew a seal in the tranny and leaked oil on the exhaust witch caught it on fire i am wondering what trannys will bolt up to that motor and be stroner then an a4ld i wouold like to stay automatic just because thats wat im set up for thanks for you time and help.

idk of an auto that will fit in the a4ld spot other than an ex's a4ld... the a4ld aint a weak trans really.. i've beat on mine a lot.. mine is from a 92 explorer. the explorer a4ld has more steel and frictions in some clutch packs. its the same case but stronger internals..

okay thanks for the help ive just heard alot of bad things about them and wasnt sure im thinking about switching to a 5 speed but i really would like a 4 speed manuel do know of anything that would fit im extreamly new to the 4x4 scene i just built my very first truck and all this happend on the first run i just turned 18 so i dont have all thatmuch knowledge about 4x4 im can work on cars and trucks well but dont know much about interchangeing parts

the M5OD the strongest manual transmission that'll simply bolt right up to the 2.9, it's a five speed but nobody is making you use the 5th gear, it's stronger than any 4speed you'll find that fits.

as a bonus, it'll fit without modifying your crossmember at all.

or drive shafts, or transfer case....

it really is the smartest swap.
