okay i have a 1990 ranger 2wd 5 speed 2.3L, i pulled the motor and changed tranny's and when i put the motor in it wont start. i am pretty sure everything is connected. i checked, it isnt getting spark and the injectors arent firing, it has a DIS ignition system, please help because i just spent a lot of money on it for clutch components and tranny and i need it running!

okay i found a pic of my dis. it says that there are two grounds on it and they need to be grounded for it to work. i had mine held on by one screw because the heads broke off the other ones. if i move it over to the right a little and drill two holes in the intake where it bolts to and bolt the two screws in the holes for the ground. my main question is because i only had one screw in could that stop it from working?

Not your problem if the truck was running when you pulled the engine. The module should have all mounting screws anyway as this holds it to the heat sink. These modules give enough problems when mounted correctly much less if sloppily mounted.

If the truck was running before you worked on it, and doesn't now, you do not have everything connected properly. CAREFULLY re-check your work.:)shady

so even though i only have one screw holding it on it should still work, i mean it had 3 screws holding it on before i took it off to clean the intake but now it only has one holding it on because the other two broke. so are you sure its not my problem?

the bottom left screw grounds the unit, without this screw you wont get any fire. that is deffenitely your problem. you can splice a ground into the orange/blue wire to get it to run(at least it was orange and blue on my 94). but that's not the right way. :)

I made sure to put the bottom left back on mine, but I also ran an extra ground wire from that screw to the frame. I havent had any probs so far with mine....

i got the screw in on the bottom left, it didnt work though, so i switched the dis from my other truck, and it fired right up. okay i have two questions, first on the intake the number 3 cylinder the gasket fell off. will it be okay like that for a week or so and then ill replace the gasket and the gasket on the throttle body isnt there and il replace that also in a week or so. second, the heater hose, it tee's off and goes to the heater core and throttle body but does the hose going to the intake connect to the line going into the heater core or the return from the heater core?

On my truck the T-goes to the intake and the right side line of the heater core (facing the firewall)...

As far as the intake gasket...isn't it one piece? All mine were...and you need to put a dab of sealant around the water inlet or you may get coolant in the intake...

yea it is one piece but the gasket ripped and i wont have time to work on it untill the weekend so can i drive it like that untill then, so the T-goes to the inlet of the water pump and the outlet of the water pump goes to the left side of the heater core.

I did the same thing when i figured out why it wouldn't start. I think my ICM is still messed up though, every once in a while the truck will just crap out and die. always seems to be when im taking off through an intersection too so i have to push the damn thing... haha.

It'll drive and if you keep moving above 40 mph it might stay cool, but I wouldnt do. You not asking for trouble your demandingit. Even if the gasket was there and was cracked you would have big issues.
