My kids engine has 4 of the 6 lifters with the top plastic caps broken. I was gonna clean and inspect them. Since it doesn’t look like those plastic caps are sold anywhere I am not sure if that is an option. Can the lifters be used without those caps after they have been cleaned?

I'm very confused. What are you calling lifters cause there should be 12 and I don't know of any plastic parts on them. :dunno:

Pics would definitely help.

Ford used two different 4.0's in Rangers. The only similarity between the two is size. Year and which motor you have is important.

Yeah 6 lifters each head. Each hydraulic tappet lifter has a plastic cone on too

2000 OHV

I would be very wary of using those without the cone. As I understand it a big part of it's function is to make sure the push rod doesn't run off, and that it has some oil there at the bottom.

I know they aren't cheap, but I'd replace them.

Actually, there is quite a bit that is similar about them. If they hadn't insisted on using the OHV block for the OHC engine the valve train and timing chain setup may well have been much less of a disaster.

Whose they and why would they do that?
